Changes to the 2022 Genesis Models

Since becoming a stand-alone brand in 2017, the Genesis model line has expanded virtually every year, and 2022 is no different. The Korean luxury brand's latest addition is the all-new GV70 compact crossover. The product lineup now consists of five luxurious offerings: three sedans and two SUVs. Aside from the arrival of the GV70, Genesis brings a host of meaningful updates to the G70 sedan. The brand also brings back the G80 Sport model for those wanting a more performance-oriented premium driving experience. All other changes to the Genesis line are minor. Here are the details.

For 2022, the Genesis G70 compact sports sedan receives notable revisions. Starting on the outside, the reimagined front and rear fascias feature a mesh grille and twin-bar headlights and taillights. The G70 now follows the design language seen on other models across the brand's product portfolio with those elements.

Inside, the G70's infotainment interface grows from an 8-inch display to a wide-format 10.3-inch screen. The G70 is also now more connected than ever with the ability to enable over-the-air updates for various vehicle functions, including advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

On the powertrain side, both engines—the 2.0-liter turbo-4 and 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6—are carryover. The only change is the omission of the 4-cylinder's optional manual transmission.

Genesis completely redesigned the G80 sedan for the 2021 model year. As such, it arrives for 2022 unchanged except for the return of the G80 Sport model, which was not available last year. Standing out from the rest of the G80 model range, the Sport features a unique front fascia and exclusive 21-inch wheels. Within, the G80 Sport features a 3-spoke steering wheel, carbon-fiber trim, and quilted seats. Mechanically, the G80 Sport trumps the conventional model with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), a retuned suspension, and available rear-wheel steering.

The G90 full-size luxury sedan is a carryover model for 2022.

The all-new GV70 is Genesis' second SUV model, following last year's introduction of the GV80. This compact luxury crossover is poised to take on well-established competitors from Audi, Mercedes, and Volvo. The GV70 rides atop 18- to 21-inch wheels and features an impressive cabin laden with creature comforts and the latest ADAS. Even second-row passengers can have heated seats, USB access, and reclining seatbacks. Performance-wise, the GV70 gets standard AWD paired with either a 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine making 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 making 375 hp and 391 pound-feet of torque. With a base price of $41,000, the GV70 may be one of the best luxury values anywhere.

The Genesis GV80 luxury midsize crossover was all-new for 2021 and became the brand's first SUV offering. It returns for the 2022 model year with only minor changes. A new Prestige Signature trim level elevates the premium factor in the second row with 6-way power captain's chairs with a Relax Mode setting, as well as a wireless charging pad. The GV80 also receives a redesigned steering wheel, and Genesis adds matte colors to the exterior paint color palette.
