Arizona is on the upswing, going from five to eight and 11 wins with Murray and Kliff Kingsbury paired. The Chiefs have advanced to four consecutive AFC Championship Games and have won seven consecutive season openers. A victory Sunday would make them the sixth team in the Super Bowl era to win eight straight season openers.

Arizona’s young defense and a cornerback group that lacks depth will find it difficult to keep up with Mahomes and Co., even following the departure of wide receiver Tyreek Hill to Miami.

However, Steve Spagnuolo-led defenses often take time to find their footing each season and his young corps will be challenged to limit Arizona’s scoring, even with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on the reserve/suspended list. With tight end Zach Ertz hampered by a calf injury, Murray will lean on receiver Marquise Brown to make big plays. Our pick: Cardinals to cover the +6 spread @ -110 via Caesars Sportsbook

There may be new players, but head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes will find ways to feature everyone in an offense led by tight end Travis Kelce. He is always Mahomes’ security blanket in open areas of the field. But there is more to the offense than Kelce. The new wide receivers are Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster as they move on from different NFL legendary quarterbacks (Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger) to Mahomes, who will be tasked with getting the most out of their different skill sets.

The speedy Mecole Hardman returns, while second-round pick Skyy Moore will be interesting to watch in his NFL debut. A loss, which is expected, would be the Cardinals’ sixth consecutive at home. Our pick: Chiefs to win outright @ -250 via Caesars Sportsbook.

Needing a combined 54 points to hit the over seems like easy pickings. Would it be a shock if that actually was the case after two quarters? Not if Arizona’s offense is running on all cylinders. The wild card is if Kingsbury goes out of character and doesn’t play as up-tempo as he usually does in an attempt to run more clock and limit Kansas City’s offensive opportunities.

Surely, turnovers can always affect outcomes, but as long as Mahomes protects the ball, the Chiefs could hit the 40-mark, which they did twice last season on the road and twice in the postseason. Their games went over 53.5 six times in the regular season and twice in the playoffs. Our pick: Over 53.5 total points scored @ -110 via Caesars Sportsbook
