Temperatures for the eastern half of the nation will be well below normal for most of the workweek.
Winter will provide a preview of the upcoming season with what are expected to be the coldest temperatures so far this fall for nearly 200 million Americans.
An unusually strong low-pressure system will help usher in the cold air, which could make it all the way to the Gulf Coast by midweek.
The event will be the coolest air mass since April, with an estimated 180 million people experiencing temperatures of at least 10 degrees below average.
The FOX Forecast Center said the cold air will start to pour into the country out of Canada on Monday, but it'll be Tuesday and Wednesday when the chill will impact nearly the entire eastern half of the nation.
"Get ready. Get the jacket out. And anyone that has kids are going to be going to the bus stop. We want to make sure that they're prepared," FOX Weather meteorologist Steve Bender said.

The cold air will mean both morning lows and afternoon highs will be significantly below normal in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast.
The FOX Forecast Center expects over 60 million people from the Canadian border to the Southeast will see below-freezing temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
The freezing mark is expected to make it to cities such as Nashville and Memphis in Tennessee and Birmingham and Huntsville in Alabama. A freeze would be these communities' first of the year.
A cold start to the morning means temperatures will struggle to recover during the day, with highs only in the 40s in the Midwest and staying in the 50s across the Southeast and I-95 corridor.
"When you look at all those areas in blue, that's an indication of 20 to 30 degrees below average in this region. The average is in the 60s and 70s. So that means you're going to be having temperatures in the 40s and 50s," Bender said.
The National Weather Service Office in Pittsburgh said the cold weather event has a decent potential to end the annual growing season for many.

The combination of breezy conditions over the warm Great Lakes and cold temperatures will establish a pattern for lake-enhanced precipitation, including snow, for areas along the Great Lakes and higher elevations of the Northeast through midweek.
Cities such as Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, New York, will all see a chance that rain could mix with snow flurries.
The potential snow accumulation ranks on the lowest possible scale of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI).
The index considers various data sources to depict how significant the impacts could be, and right now, the only suggestive action is for travelers to drive carefully. The snow should not have a significant impact on daily life.
Areas of northern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and interior parts of the state could see the heaviest snowfall out of the cold weather event.
Forecast models show upwards of a foot of snow falling over the next five days around the Michigan communities of Ironwood and Marquette, which could be distributive to transportation.
Substantially lower amounts are expected in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, but the snowfall will be significant since the event is considered to be the first of the season.
Snowfall totals from Traverse City to Cadillac and Grand Rapids could range from a dusting to 3 inches.
Forecast models show the cold weather will let up by the end of the workweek, and everyone should see significant moderation by the upcoming weekend.
